Liverpool got a much needed win against bottom side Bristol Academy. Natasha Dowie was the hero with two goals linking up well with Ashley Hodson throughout. Bristol keeper Mary Earps palmed away a Hodson cross into the path of Dowie to give the Reds the lead in the first half. Hodson’s cross from the right set Dowie up again to make it two in the second. An effort from Sophie Ingle cleared off the line by Becky Easton was the closest Bristol came to a goal themselves.

The points were shared between Birmingham and Sunderland. Karen Carney skipped passed her marker to set up Freda Ayisi to give the Blues the lead. A Brooke Chapelen cross was met by Abbie Joyce to equalise from close range. Late on Sunderland were the stronger, Beth Mead shot wide and Abby Holmes forced a good save from Rebecca Spencer as Sunderland pushed for but could not get a winner late on.

Notts County battled back from 2-0 down to earn a point against in form Manchester City at Meadow Lane. Nikita Parris forced two good saves from Notts keeper Carly Telford before City and England Captain Steph Houghton gave the Manchester side control. Her first was a close range effort from a corner, the second a trademark long range free-kick. Lucy Bronze made a rare error being adjudged to have handled the ball giving Notts County a Penalty which Jess Clarke converted letting Notts back into the game. They took advantage when Rachel Williams got the better of Houghton and scored with an early shot to ensure a share of the points in the last minute of the game

Chelsea moved clear at the top of the table by beating Arsenal 2-0. Vicky Losada was unlucky to deflect Gill Flaherty’s header past the keeper into her won net to give Chelsea the lead. Fran Kirby went close on a couple of occasions to add to the lead as Chelsea dominated the game. Emma Mitchell brought Kirby down in the area to give Chelsea a penalty which Gemma Davison converted to seal the points. Arsenal only shot came in injury time when Jordan Nobbs had a shot saved onto the post. But Chelsea deserved the win and being full of confidence after their FA Cup triumph, lead the way at the top of the table.
