Keeper Schmeichel helps Foxes Earn a point
Leicester City went back level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table after earning a point against Manchester City. Two fine saves from Kaspar Schmeichel keeping out Raheem Stirling ensured Leicester were not behind at half-time, indeed Jamie Vardy could have put them ahead but hit his shot over the bar. Leicester had the better of the second half with Vardy and Christian Fuchs bringing saves from Joe Hart. The draw probably suits Leicester more than Manchester City and keep the Foxes right up there despite a tough Christmas season.
Derby miss chance to go top
Derby County remain unbeaten but missed a chance to go back to the top after a 2-2 draw at Leeds. Derby took the lead when Jeff Hendrick cut in from the left and dribbled past two Leeds defenders to slot home. Sol Bamba leveled from close range just before half-time after a mistake from keeper Lee Grant.
Leeds took the lead with 20 minutes to go when Chris Wood headed home Sam Byrom’s cross. Derby were not done though and equalised when Johnny Russell set up in form Tom Ince to make it 2-2. The point leaves Derby a point behind Middlesbrough in second place, and four points ahead of Hull in third.
Forest earn a point in South Wales
Nottingham Forest came away from a tricky trip to South Wales with a well earned point. Both goals came in the first half. Forest took the lead with Dexter Blackstock’s through ball putting Oliver Burke away who scored his first goal for the club with a cool finish. Cardiff were level within three miniutes after a strike from Aron Gunnarson deflected leaving the Forest keeper stranded. Although Cardiff had more possession, Forest matched them for most of the game and deserved their point, but now 10 points behind the play off spots, they need to start a run of wins to get back into the mix.
