Flash knockout saves Tanaka’s title
Japan’s Kosei Tanaka survived an early rocky spell including being knocked down in the fifth round against Vic Saludar of the Philippines. The challenger was dominating the fight and well ahead on all the scorecards that were later released in the aftermath at the fifth round stage. However Tanaka showed why he was champ with a clean left hook in the sixth with dropped Saludar for the knockout. This was Tanaka’s first defence of his title at the lowest weight division in boxing.

WBA Super Featheweight & Light Flyweight Titles in Tokyo
Two comfortable wins for Japanese fighters
Top rated super featherweight Takashi Uchiyama saw off Nicaragua’s Oliver Flores in 3 rounds to comfortably defend his WBA title. The win was his 11th title defence and clears the way for bigger fights later in 2016. Uchiyama dominated from the bell and the referee stopped the contest after a flurry of punches saw Flores unable to continue.
Meanwhile at Light-Flyweight, the to many underrated Champion Ryoichi Taguchi retained his title after Colombian challenger Luis De La Rosa retired on his stoll at the end of the ninth round. Taguchi was in control and would have probably gone on to win. Overall it’s been an interesting few days boxing in Japan with the promise of plenty more to come in 2016.
