Capital One Cup Semi-Finals

Ibe gives Liverpool a big advantage

Liverpool took a big stride towards the Capital One Cup final on Tuesday night winning their away first leg at Stoke City. Liverpool’s high pressing game nullified Stoke’s in form attacking threat. The key moment came on 37 minutes when Joe Allen and Adam Lallana combined to Jordan Ibe to score at the far post. Jonathan Walters missed a chance late on to equalise but Liverpool deserved their win. It came at a cost however with injuries to both Phillipe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren. Ibe himself has also picked up an injury in the last day and will miss the Exeter FA Cup game.

Lukaku the difference for Everton

Romelu Lukaku got the winning goal as Everton took a 2-1 advantage in their first leg against Manchester City at Goodison Park on Wednesday night. Everton struck first just before half time after Ramiro Funes-Mori converted as the ball went loose as keeper Will Caballero could not keep hold of Ross Barkley’s effort. City leveled with 15 minutes to go after a sweeping counter attack ended with Sergio Aguerro putting Jesus Navas away to score. Everton were not done though and Lukaku showed his class heading in a Gareth Barry cross to give Everton the edge and an all Merseyside Derby is looking a distinct possibility for the final.
