Australia v India – ODI Game 5

Pandey helps India avoid shut out

INDIA WIN BY 6 WICKETS – AUSTRALIA WIN THE SERIES 4-1

Power batting from India including a well timed century from Manish Pandey stpped Australia taking a shut out series win in Sydney. In another pitch with little for the bowlers, Australia batted first and post a target of 330 with centuries for David Warner who hit 3 sixes in his 122, and Mitchell Marsh with 102. Unusually however Australia lost a couple of wickets early on stopping meaning a degree more caution was required than normal, and as a result they did not have quite enough on the board.

In reply India’s openers put 124 on the board for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma fell just short of a century with 99 and Shikhar Dhawan hit 78. Sharma’s departure brought Pandey to the crease who timed the run chase to perfection scoring 104 not out and seeing India home with four balls to spare. John Hastings bowled well taking three of the four wickets but on this occasion it was not enough. India take some confidence into the rest of the tour with their first victory win in a series dominated by the bat. Australia still win the series and remain easily the best one day side in the world.
