De Bruyne magic seals semi-final heartbreak for the Toffeemen

MANCHESTER CITY 3 EVERTON 1 – MANCHESTER CITY WIN 4-3 ON AGG

Everton failed to hold on to their advantage at the Etihad after a superb spell after coming on as substitute from Belgian Kevin De Bruyne helped turn the game the way of the Manchester side. Everton actually extended their 2-1 home advantage by striking first after a fantastic piece of solo work from Ross Barklay ended in a long range strike into the corner. Sergio Aguerro hit the post as the home side began to push forward and they were back level at the break thanks to a deflected shot from Fernandinho meaning the sides went in with Everton leading 3-2 on aggregate.

After a tight start to the second half the game turned when De Bruyne was brought on. His goal was controversial as it looked like Raheem Stirling had taken the ball over the goal line before crossing for De Bruyne to score, it was not seen however and the goal was given. Moments later De Bruyne sent over a perfect cross for Aguerro to head home and give City the lead in the tie they never looked like losing from that point. The low point for the home side was the De Bruyne sustained an injury to his leg that could now keep him out for several weeks. The defence comfortably saw off a couple of late corners from Everton as they tried to push forward without creating anything further, so there will be no all Merseyside final, with Manchester City moving on to face Liverpool at Wembley.
