One Day Series – New Zealand v Pakistan

Game 1 – Boult slams the door on Pakistan

NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 70 RUNS – NEW ZEALAND LEAD THE SERIES 1-0

A four wicket hall from Trent Boult ensured Pakistan got nowhere near their target of 281 aiding New Zealand to victory in Wellington. New Zealand batted first and were in trouble at 70-4 before an an 82 from Henry Nicholls and 48 from each from Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry spared the top order batsmen’s blushes posting a decent 280. Mohammad Amir and Anwar Ali both took three wickets for Pakistan. In reply Babar Azam top scored with 62 but Pakistan continued to lose wickets disputing the run chase. Boult took four wickets and Grant Eliott three with the final three wickets falling for just 5 runs as Pakistan were all out for 210 giving New Zealand first blood in the series.

Game 2 – Game Washout

MATCH DRAWN – NEW ZEALAND LEAD THE SERIES 1-0

The second game of the series was washed out due to rain. The match was abandoned and declared a draw in Napier without a single ball being bowled. The draw means New Zeland cannot lose the series with one game to go.

Game 3 – Guptill and Richardson lead the way for New Zealand

NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 3 WICKETS (DUCKWORTH/LEWIS) – NEW ZEALAND WIN THE SERIES 2-0

New Zealand sealed the series against Pakistan in a rain affected game in Auckland in which the Duckworth-Lewis method created a tense finish. Pakistan batted first with Babar Azam with 83 and Mohammad Hafeez with 76 continuing their good form, They were bowled all out however with Adam Milne taking three wickets and on this pitch their total of 290 looked a little short. In reply New Zealand got off to a sticky start with Brendon McCullum being bowled out for a duck. Then Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson took control. A rain delay saw the New Zealand target re-set to 265 off 43 Overs. Guptill hit 82 and Williamson 84 to put New Zealand in a strong position. wickets lost however gave Pakistan hope until Mitchell Santner stuck around to hit the winning runs with just two balls to spare, and complete a series victory that ensures they remain up with Australia as one of the two strongest sides in the one day Cricket world.
