Ogbonna’s last gasp header knocks Liverpool out of the cup

West Ham are through to face Blackburn in round 5 after beating Liverpool at Upton Park. The game was end to end from the very start with Joey O’Brien hitting the post for West Ham and Phillipe Coutinho doing the same for Liverpool. Christian Benteke also had two clear cut chances but failed to score. West Ham took the lead just before half time with Mikhail Antonio volleying in an Enner Valencia cross.
Liverpool hit back early in the second half from a Countinho free-kick as Winston Reid jumped and Coutinho rolled the ball under him catching the keeper out in the process to level the scores. Liverpool brought on Daniel Sturridge returning from injury and went to a three in attack. This opened the game up more, Jordon Ibe forced a save from Darren Randolph and Mark Noble forcing Simon Mignolet into a save with four minutes left.
Into extra time, the first period saw Benteke put through one on one with Randolph and he squandered another chance. With the game looking like it was head to a penalty shoot out, Lucas, who had otherwise had a good game in defence, gave away a needless free kick with only a minute to go. Dimitri Payet delivered a superb cross for Angelo Ogbonna to head home a very late winner to send the home fans into raptures and end Liverpool’s interest in this years FA Cup.
Late Thomas equaliser earns Stags a vital point
OXFORD UNITED 2 MANSFIELD TOWN 2
Promotion chasers Oxford United and Mansfield Town shared the points at the Kassam Stadium. Oxford had the better of the early possession but the visitors took the lead against the run of play with Matt Green scoring after Oxford Keeper Sam Slocombe’s poor punch at at a corner fell into Green’s path. Danny Hylton headed Oxford level from a Jonjoe Kenny cross and Hylton grabbed a second after the break converting a low cross from Zeli Ismail.
With Oxford looking good for all three points and to extend their gap in the third automatic promotion spot, Jack Thomas reacted first after Ryan Tafazoli’s strike from range hit the bar, Thomas scored off the rebound from six yards. Hylton had a chance for his hat-trick and to win the game in injury time but put his chance wide leaving each side with a point a piece. Mansfield remain fourth but having played more games than most around them. Oxford remain in third four points ahead of Mansfield.
