Van Gerwen takes first Euro Tour title with a 112 average

Michael Van Gerwen has continued his strong early season for to take the German Darts Masters tournament in Venray. He was facing Northern Ireland’s Darryl Gurney, who earlier had beaten former World Champion Adrian Lewis in the Quarter-Finals on his way to his first PDC Final.

Van Gerwen served notice he meant business taking out a 152 check out in the first leg. Gurney leveled the score with a 116 of his own. Van Gerwen then clicked into gear hitting 13, 11 and 12 dart legs hammering in five 180’s in the process to take a 4-1 lead.

Gurney responded well with a 14 dart leg to get one back but any hope of a comeback was snuffed out as Van Gerwen took the next two, finishing with a 14 dart leg to take the title for a 3rd year in a row, and a mammoth average of over 112. If he continues that form, it will take something special to stop him.
