Ben Ainslie’s British team lead the Americas cup series after winning the 7th round regatta in Portsmouth. They won the first race 52 seconds ahead of the American team and finished second behind the US in race 2. This led to the British team needing to finish second or better in the final race to win the regatta. Ainslie’s men got off to a fast start but were put under pressure towards the end by New Zealand, The British team however saw off the challenge to win the leg of the America’s Cup series and put themselves in pole position ahead of the American team in second. With the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge and 50,000 people watching on, Ainslie on on course as he aims to bring the Maerica’s Cup to Britain for the first time.
