Moon Of Liberty Boxing – Takayama v Kano

World Championship Boxing

WBO Strawweight Title

Japan’s Katsunami Takayama became a four time Strawweight champion after winning the vacant WBO version against compatriot Riku Kano. After a tight first round Takayam began to take control in the second fighting on the front foot. A clash of heads in the third saw a cut over Takayama’s right eye, despite this Takayama continued to control the fight dominating round 5. Takayama’s cut got worse in round 6 with the referee declaring the fight be stopped. Despite the cut Takayama had done enough on the scorecards to take it unanimously and become a World Champion once again after losing the IBF version to Mexican Jose Argumedo last time out.
