FA Cup Round 4 – Liverpool v Wolves

Toothless reds crash out after fine Wolves counter attacking

Liverpool have gone down to a third straight home defeat being knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship Wolves. A far post header from Richard Steerman from a free kick had the visitors ahead within a minute and they made it two before half time with Andreas Weimann finishing a fine counter attacking move. Liverpool did not manage a shot on target in a first half where Wolves could have had more.

Steerman was superb at the back during the second half as the Reds continued to struggle, not helped as Wolves substitute Jon Daoi Bodvarsson time and again caused havoc chasing everything up front and nearly scoring a spectacular individual effort in which he beat three men cutting in from out wide and nearly sneaking the ball into the net. Divock Origi got a late consolation as Liverpool got desperate towards the end. but Wolves deserved their win continuing the Reds miserable recent run in the process.

However Notts responded magnificently as Thierry Audel gave the 10 men the lead. With six minutes left it looked like the chance had been blown as James Collins equalised. However today the Magpies were not done as Jonathan Forte struck from 12 yards in injury time to hand the home side all three points. The win takes County out of the relegation zone.
