ODI Game 1 in Port Elizabeth – South Africa v Sri Lanka

South Africa blow Sri Lanka away in windy Port Elizabeth

South Africa easily won the first game of their five match ODI series with Sri Lanka in the wind of Port Elizabeth. South Africa won the key toss to put Sri Lanka in and bowled them all out for just 181 as the visitors failed to handle the conditions. Kusla Mendis with 62 got the only score of note as Imran Tahir took three wickets for just 26 runs. The hosts wasted no time as Hasim Amla with 57 and Faf du Plessis with 55 not out eased South Africa into cruise control to get home with 15 overs to spare for the loss of just two wickets.

ODI Game 1 in Auckland – New Zealand v Australia

Huge effort from Stoinis not enough as New Zealand claim opener.

Marcus Stoinis produced a performance that would normally see him on the winning side, but it was not enough in Auckland as New Zealand saw off Australia in a thrilling finale at Eden Park. New Zealand had posted 286 with Neil Broom top scoring with 73. However it was 16 Not Out from Trent Boult that was to be crucial at the end as the tailender ensured those extra runs to see out the 50 overs which proved the difference. Stoinis had been the best of the bowlers taking 3 wickets and looked to be joining a lost cause when he went out to bat at 148 for 7 in reply. Stoinis did all he could with eleven sixes and nine fours in his mammoth 146 Not Out to leave Australia just six runs short with 19 balls to be bowled and just one wicket remaining. However with Stoinis trying to keep the strike led to Josh Hazlewood at the other end being run out by a direct hit from Kane Williamson which handed the Black Caps the victory and a 1-0 lead in what could prove to be an epic series.
