Kazakh challenger stuns Warren

Kazakhstan’s Zhanat Zhakiyanov showed character to recover from two first round knockdowns to fight back and take the WBA Bantamweight title from Rau’shee Warren in a big upset. Zhakiyanov’s left hook was a key weapon as he landed and had Warren going backwards again and again and dominated the second half of the fight as Warren began to tire. One judge did take a different view giving Warren the fight 115-111 but the other two giving it to Zhakiyanov 116-110 and 115-111 was more in line with how most saw it. Zhakiyanov’s win is the first World Title for the promotion stable of former British World Champion Ricky Hatton.
