World Grand Prix Final in Preston – Hawkins v Day

Hawkins takes third ranking title

Barry Hawkins produced some top class snooker to take his third ranking title against Welshman Ryan Day. Hawkins scored four centuries in the first session and it was credit to the dogged resistance of Day that the lead was only 6-3 going into the evening. Breaks of 128 and 85 helped Hawkins take the first three frames of the evening session to move 9-3 away and just one frame from the title. Hawkins should have sealed it in frame 13 but missed a straight forward red letting Day in to take it. Day then launched a mini comeback taking the next three frames to pull it back to 9-7. Day then lead by 31 points in frame 17 but Hawkins laid a snooker on the final red that led to Day opening the balls up for Hawkins to clear the table and take the title 10-7. and claim his second World Grand Prix title as he won here in 2014.
