Premier League – Leicester City v Liverpool


Leicester re-find title form to sweep Liverpool aside

Leicester’s first game post Claudio Ranieri bizarrely enabled them to find title winning form and claim a huge three points. Marc Albrighton put Jamie Vardy in to strike first and Leicester doubled the lead before the break with a superb long range effort. Vardy’s glancing head sealed the points. Philippe Coutinho got a consolation late on but Liverpool lose ground in the top four race while Leicester’s relegation predicament looks rather more hopeful after these vital three points.

Championship – Blackburn Rovers v Derby County


Derby pay the penalty

Derby County are now six games without a win after losing 1-0 at Blackburn. Marvin Emens had chances for the hosts in the first half. The breakthrough came on 58 minutes as Sam Gallagher was brought down by Alex Pearce and Craig Conway put away the penalty. Blackburn deserved the win as Derby, who were once in pole position for a play off place, now look well out of the equation.

League 2 – Blackpool v Barnet


Late comeback earns Tangerines a point

Blackpool who in recent weeks have thrown away leads this time came back from two down to earn a point against Barnet. John Akinde and Colin Clough has put Barnet 2-0 up, Nathan Delfoueneso took advantage of a loose ball to strike from 12 yards. The equaliser came in injury time, Clark Robinson’s header came off the past and Kyle Vassell reacted quickest to score from the rebound. Blackpool remain in 15th place after the draw.

League 2 – Plymouth Argyle v Notts County

Grant strikes again to secure big win for the Magpies

Notts County got an excellent away win at second place Plymouth to g five games unbeaten. Jorge Grant got his third goal in four scoring from a rebound after Jonathan Forte’s shot was parried following an error from Yeovil defender Yann Songo’o. The win means Notts are now eight points clear from the drop zone and well on their way to staying in League 2.

League 2 – Yeovil Town v Mansfield Town

No score at Huish Park

Mansfield Town may feel it was two points dropped as they had the better of a 0-0 draw at Yeovil. Ben Whiteman had the best chance producing a fine double save from keeper Bevis Mugabe. The draw leaves the Stags one point outside the play off places. They may rue failing to get all three points here. Yeovil are safely in mid table with little left to play for.
