Wright Takes his first major title
In a week of surprises Alan Norris continued his fine form after his win at the Players Championship last week to reach the Semi-Final, Gerwyn Price reached his first final, but the title went to the best player of the tournament, Scotland’s Peter Wright who having been beaten in this event for the last two years, too his first major title.
Two ton plus checkouts saw Wright take an early 3-0 lead over Welshman Price. Maintaining a 100 average through, Wright raced into a 7-2 lead before Price his a run of four out of five to close to 8-6. Wright broke to take a three leg advantage with a key 86 checkout and then took control to take the next to to complete the 11-6 victory, and a title he has been so close to for so long.
