PDC World Matchplay Final in Blackpool – Taylor v Wright
Phil Taylor rolled back the years to take a 16th World Matchplay title. He thrashed world number 1 Michael van Gerwin earlier in the week and after easing past Adrian Lewis in the Semi Final he faced Peter Wright, who had come through a close semi of his own against Daryl Gurney to get here. Taylor had the better of the opening exchanges taking a 4-2 lead.
Wright finished a 100 with two double tops to close to one but then Taylor went on a tare of four straight legs to take a huge 8-3 lead. Wright would not buckle through taking three on the spin to close to to 8-6 but that would be as close as he got. Taylor took the next four to move to 12-6 and Wright would win only two more legs as Taylor with a 104 average completed his vintage performance tow in 18-8 and claim another major in what he says will be his final year of touring.
Could ‘The Power’ finish with another World Title? on this form, he just might.
