League 2 – Wycombe Wanderers v Blackpool

All square at Adams Park

Blackpool are back in the play off hunt but missed a big chance to win the game at Wycombe. Brad Potts had a penalty saved by keeper Jamal Blackman in a game of few chances otherwise. The 0-0 draw means Blackpool are now only three points off the play off places after some good recent form. Today will feel like an opportunity missed however.

Scottish Championship – Morton v Queen Of The South

Queens beaten at Morton

Queen Of The South showed again the inconsistency that has put them out of the play off race with a poor display at Morton. Aiden Nesbitt should have put the home side ahead but volleyed over the bar. Ross Forbes got the only goal cutting inside from the right to score. Rickie Lammie also hit the bar as Morton could have had more than the eventual 1-0 scoreline which moves Morton above Dundee United into third.

Premier League

Everton fought back from one down to earn an away win at West Brom. Gareth McAuley headed home a corner to give West Brom an early lead but Everton turned the game just before half-time with a Kevin Mirallas equaliser. The winner came on the hour from Gareth Barry who forced the ball home after West Brom failed to clear a corner. Everton are currently in fifth after the win.

Liverpool could not build on their impressive win at Arsenal being beaten 2-0 at Burnley. Andre Gray set up Sam Vokes to give Burnely the lead within two minutes and Gray rolled home the second as Liverpool never got going and despite a huge amount of possession, failed to use it in a disappointing display.

In the late game between the Champions and Runners-up from last season, Arsenal had the better of the chances but Leicester City felt they were denied a penalty when Danny Drinkwater went down. Neither side could find the breakthrough as it ended 0-0 and a point each.

Nottingham Forest won a second home game in a row 4-3 after a dramatic injury time winner against Wigan. Britt Assombalonga put Forest ahead which was equalised by Michael Jacobs. Oliver Burke brought the Reds back ahead before the break but Will Grigg caught fire to score twice to threaten to take a point scoring either side of Burke’s second making it 3-3 going into the last five minutes. Thomas Lam got hos second Forest goal in the 93rd minute to give Forest all three points. Forest have won all their home games and lost all their away games so far.The excitement did not extend to Pride Park as Derby County fought out a 0-0 stalemate at home to Aston Villa. Villa hit the woodwork twice and were the better side in the first half, the game then petered out in a poor second half.

League 2

Mansfield Town’s impressive start to the season came to a halt at Plymouth. Two goals in five minutes from Graham Carey eased the Devon side to a 2-0 win. Blackpool drew a blank at Bloomfield Road with a 0-0 draw against Wycombe. Jim McAllister had the best chance with seven minutes to go. Newport got a late point at home to Crewe with Sean Rigg’s header on 83 minutes cancelling out Alex Kiwomya’s first half strike in a 1-1 draw.

Notts County got their first win of the season with a comeback victory at Hartlepool. Toto Nsiala gave the home side the lead at the break and County were looking down the barrel at a third defeat in four games. Louis Laing leveled in the second half and Jon Stead hit the woodwork in a much better second half display. It was Stead who was to be the hero with a calm turn and shot into the corner on 76 minutes to see the Magpies take home all three points.

National League

Tranmere Rovers made it five out of five with a 2-1 win at home to Maidstone. Andy Cook gave Rovers the lead but against the run of play Alex Flisher got his second of the season to level for Maidstone. James Norwood hit the woodwork but the hero was Steve McNulty who bundled in the winner after a goalmouth scramble. Chester City earner a point at Boreham Wood. Morgan Ferrier gave the Hertfordshire side the lead but Eliott Durrell lobbed the keeper from range seven minutes from time to equalise. Southport endured a painful day at Lincoln, Johnny Margetts got all four goals for the home side as the Sangrounders were thrashed 4-0 with Ashley Grimes sent off for Southport to add to their miserable afternoon.

Scottish Championship

Queen Of The South are third after making it seven from nine points with a comfortable and deserved 2-0 win over Falkirk. Stephen Dobbie scored both, a well executed curling shot in the first half and adding a second from a rebound after a Lyndon Dykes shot was parried. The Doonhammers are looking a much improved outfit with Dobbie, who has returned to Dumfries after a spell with Blackpool, back in the side.
