1st Test in Galle – Sri Lanka v India

india

India used the best of the conditions to post 600 in a first innings of power batting which set up a big victory against Sri Lanka in the first test in Galle. Shikhar Dhawan lead the way with 190 and Chesteshwar Pujara hit 153 to get India off to the perfect start. Nuwan Pradeep persevered for 6 wickets in the first innings for the home side but it was to be in vain. In reply Sri Lanka could only post 291 with Dilruwan Perera top scoring with 92 Not Out but despite his fine effort he ran out of partners.

Virat Kohli got his century in the second innings as the visitors completed the victory in four days. 3 wickets each for Ravichandran Ashwin and Javinda Jedeja polished off the Sri Lankans to seal a 304 run win, their biggest away from home, and if Inidia remain in this form it could be a long series for Sri Lanka.

ODI Game 5 – Sri Lanka v Australia

Australia completed their one day series victory over Sri Lanka with a 5 wicket win in Pallekele. Sri Lanka batted first with nobody getting past the thirties. Danushka Gunathilaka top scored with a mere 39 as Mitchell Starc took 3 Wickets restricting the hosts to just 195. Opener David Warner’s century ensured the Aussies were on top from the start. He eventually was out for 106. Despite three wickets for Dilruwan Perera the Sri Lankan’s never put enough pressure on as Australia coasted home with seven overs to spare and take a 4-1 series win which turns around their poor Test showing in which they were whitewashed. It appears their grasp of the Asian conditions came too late for the Test Series but just in time to command the one day contests.

2nd Test Match – West Indies v India

West Indies showed some real character to fight for a draw in a game that looked lost against India in Jamaica. West Indies batted first with Jermaine Blackwood top scoring with 62 and Ravichandran Ashwin taking 5 wickets as the home side struggled to 196. India then took the game away with centuries from opener Lokesh Rahul (158) and Ajinkya Rahane (108) contributing to 500-9 declared Roston Chase took five wickets and would become the hero with the bat saving the game. With India in control, Chase came to the crease and his knock of 137 not out supported by Shane Dowrich (74) and Jason Holder (64 not out) enabled the West Indies to bat out time and earn an unlikely draw. India still elad the series 1-0.
