Gibraltar Open Final – Murphy v Trump
Murphy continues great form to win on the Rock
Shaun Murphy followed up his Semi Final apparent last week at the Shoot Out by winning his first ranking title of 2017. He defeated Jud Trump in the best of seven Final at the Tercentenary Sports Hall. They shared the first two frames before Trump’s break of 86 gave him the lead. Murphy leveled again with a break of 56 then took the key fifth which was a cagey affair with some fine safety play. Murphy eventually got the chance to clear yellow to pink to take a 3-2 lead. Trump nailed a long range red early in the sixth but missed his chance missing a further red later on. This let Murphy in for a match winning 96 to claim his seventh career title. It is Trump’s second final defeat this year after falling short at the Welsh Open. Meanwhile Murphy’s form is on the up not far away from Sheffield.
