2nd Test Match in Colombo – Sri Lanka v India

india

India put 600 on the board for the second game in a row as they continued their domination in Sri Lanka. Cheteshwar Pujara (133) and Ajinkya Rahane (132) both got centuries and four other got 50+ including Ravinda Jadeja who was unbeaten on 70 not out as India declared having put a mammoth total of 622 for Sri Lanka to chase.

The first innings reply was a total collapse by Sri Lanka who were bowled all out for just 183 with Ravichandran Ashwin taking 5 wickets. Sri Lanka put more of a fight up in the second inning after India enforced the follow on. Dimuth Karanaratne hit an impressive 141 and Kusal Mendis also hit a century with 110. The size of the total was too much though with the hosts finally dismissed for 386 with 5 wickets for the excellent Jadeja for a big innings and 53 run victory.

India now only have to avoid defeat in one of the next two games to take their eight test series win in a row.

Aussie spinners at home on Indian soil

Australia have won a huge victory rolling back the years to a performance that looked like one of past glories as they thrashed India in Pune. Australia’s first innings score of 260 look precarious with Matt Renshaw top scoring with 68 and Umesh Yadav taking four wickets. The bowling star however was to come from the Australians as Steve O’Keefe took India apart taking 6 wickets as India collapsed to 105 all out.

The second innings was almost de ja vous. Steve Smith got a century but there was not much support As Australia added 285 and Ravichandran Ashwin this time took 4 wickets. It was far too much for India as O’Keefe took 6 more wickets and Nathan Lyon joined in the fun0 taking the other four.as the Aussie spinners dominated with India only getting 2 more than their first innings. A huge 333 run win for Australia on a pitch that was later criticised by the ICC. India were very confident going into this series, it will have been dented after this poor batting showing.

Woakes holds his nerve to bowl England to victory

In a thrilling final one day international in the series Chris Woakes came back from a poor start to the key final over to help England avoid a series whitewash and claim their first win over India at any level on their current tour. England batted first with Jason Roy top scoring with 65 supported by Ben Stokes who was unbeaten on 57 as England posted 331. Nobody went on to get a big score once again and on a good pitch maybe they would end up just short again as a result? It looked that way going into the final over as Kedar Jadhav hit 10 off the first two balls being bowled by Woakes to move his own score to 90. It left India needing just 6 off the final four balls. Woakes held steady however to bowl two dot balls and then got the crucial wicket as Jadhav was caught by Sam Billings. India could only score one off the final ball as Woakes had turned a certain defeat into victory for England in a huge final test of character that he came through with flying colours.

A score of 130 from David Warner including two sixes set the tone, Warner was backed up by Glenn Maxwell (78) and Travis Head (51) enabling to post a score of 353. Hasan Ali took five of the six Australian wickets and had he had some back up it may have been a different story, but it wasn’t. In reply Pakistan were quickly in trouble as Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa took three wickets each as Pakistan were all out for just 267. Australia will be favourites to close this out going into the 5th and final match.

2nd ODI in Cuttack – India v England

Singh’s 150 ensures India had enough to spare

India have ensured a one days series win over England after big hitting in Cuttack. The key for India was an excellent 150 from Yuvraj Singh and a classic 134 with six sixes from Indian captain MS Dhoni. This enabled them to put a huge 381 on the board in their 50 overs despite the best efforts of Chris Woakes who took four wickets but he had little support with the ball. England gave the chase a good go, opener Jason Roy scored 82 and  Moeen Ali kept England in it with a 55 just as England looked like they were struggling. Needing 27 off 10 balls England Captain Eoin Morgan on 102 was their best chance, he was run out at that point which effectively sealed India’s win. England batted out the overs but India had 15 runs too many in the end sealing the series win with one game still to go.

Captain Smith powers Australia home

Australian Captain Steve Smith supported by Peter Handscomb made light work of a target set by Pakistan to ensure Australia re-take the lead in their one day series. Pakistan batted first, Babar Azam top scored with 84 but they never truly got going as Josh Hazlewood took three wickets at key times to disrupt the rhythm. Their total of 263 never looked enough and so it proved. Handscomb hit 82 and Smith was there at the end with 102 not out as the two put on a partnership of 183. The Aussies were always ahead of the run chase and it was fitting that Smith got his century at the end to seal victory. The sides meet in two more contests so it is not over yet, but Pakistan will need to bat better to keep it alive.

Kohli and Jadhav set up India in monster run chase

India completed a huge chase of 350 to take the first ODI against England in Pune. England may have thought they had a winning score on the board with Jason Roy Joe Root and Ben Stokes all making half centuries. However the fact nobody went on to make a hundred ultimately left them short. In reply Virat Kohli hit his 27th ODI hundred with 5 sixes and Kedar Jadhav hit 120 scoring his half century off only 29 balls to put India in contention. England did not take enough wickets and Handik Pandya with 40 not out was there at the end to finish off what Kohli and Jadhav had set up, hitting a six to win it with 11 balls to spare and continue India’s run as England are yet to beat India at any level on tour so far.
