2nd Test Match in Colombo – Sri Lanka v India

india

India put 600 on the board for the second game in a row as they continued their domination in Sri Lanka. Cheteshwar Pujara (133) and Ajinkya Rahane (132) both got centuries and four other got 50+ including Ravinda Jadeja who was unbeaten on 70 not out as India declared having put a mammoth total of 622 for Sri Lanka to chase.

The first innings reply was a total collapse by Sri Lanka who were bowled all out for just 183 with Ravichandran Ashwin taking 5 wickets. Sri Lanka put more of a fight up in the second inning after India enforced the follow on. Dimuth Karanaratne hit an impressive 141 and Kusal Mendis also hit a century with 110. The size of the total was too much though with the hosts finally dismissed for 386 with 5 wickets for the excellent Jadeja for a big innings and 53 run victory.

India now only have to avoid defeat in one of the next two games to take their eight test series win in a row.

Stephen Cook’s second innings 117 helped South deliver a 2nd innings score that enabled them to get away with a poor first innings as Sri Lanka failed to take advantage. The hosts only posted 286 first up with Cook getting 59 of those, however Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 205 with Vernon Philander taking 5 wickets. 2nd Test Match – Sri Lanka V Australia

Sri Lanka have sealed a series victory over the number 1 test side Australia who could not handle the conditions perfect for classic Sri Lankan spin bowling. Kusal Mendis top scored in Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 281 with Mitchell Starc, the only Australian to come out of this match with any real credit, taking 5 wickets. 4 wickets each from Rangana Herath (Including a hat trick) and Dilruwan Parera restricted Australia to just 106. Perera then top scored with 64 the bat in the second innings with Starc taking 5 more wickets to make it 10 for the match. Perea then matched the 10 wicket hall by taking 6 more wickets to demolish Australia to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series with just one game to go.

2nd Test Match – West Indies v India

West Indies showed some real character to fight for a draw in a game that looked lost against India in Jamaica. West Indies batted first with Jermaine Blackwood top scoring with 62 and Ravichandran Ashwin taking 5 wickets as the home side struggled to 196. India then took the game away with centuries from opener Lokesh Rahul (158) and Ajinkya Rahane (108) contributing to 500-9 declared Roston Chase took five wickets and would become the hero with the bat saving the game. With India in control, Chase came to the crease and his knock of 137 not out supported by Shane Dowrich (74) and Jason Holder (64 not out) enabled the West Indies to bat out time and earn an unlikely draw. India still elad the series 1-0.

1st Test Match – Sri Lanka v Australia

When Sri Lanka were skittled out for merely 117 with 3 wickets from Josh Hazelwood and Nathan Lyon, a victory for Sri Lanka looked unlikely. However they fought back restricting the Aussies to 203 with Adam Voges top scoring with 47 with 4 wickets each for Rangana Herath and Lakshan Sandakan keeping Sri Lanka in the game.

The key was a superb innings of 176 from Kusal Mendis. to give Australia a target of 267 to win. They never got close, Steven Smith’s 54 was the only resistance as the capitulated to the pitch where spin was increasingly winning the day. Herath took another 5 wickets and Sri Lanka sealed a hugely impressive 106 run win.

1st Test Match – Zimbabwe v New Zealand

New Zealand easily took the first match of the series in Bulawayo against Zimbabwe. The hosts position would have been worse had it not been for tailender Donald Tiripano’s 49 not out to at least put 161 on the board with Neil Wagner taking 6 wickets. A masterclass of batting leading to three centuries Ross Taylor 173 not out, BJ Watling 107 and Tom Latham 105 enabled New Zealand to end with 576 on the board. Sean Williams got an impressive 119 to try and keep the African side in the game but in the end 4 wickets for Trent Boult ensured they got nowhere near forcing New Zealand to bat again.
