Melbourne Open Final – Taylor v Wright

england

Phil Taylor took another title in Australia winning the Melbourne Open Title by beating Scotsman Peter Wright. After blitzing home favourite Simon Whitlock in the Semi-Final Taylor went in odds on but after five holds of throw to start, it was Wright who struck first, Taylor missed double 19 with Wright on 81 and he took it out to earn the first break of throw and a 4-2 lead.

Taylor then hit back with a series of power legs to take six of the next seven legs and an 8-5 lead. Wright held in the next then hit a double-double finish with two double 18’s to break back and then hold to level at 8-8. Wright would not take another leg though, Taylor broke again then took out a 112 finish in leg 18 to take a 10-8 lead and go one away.

Wright was beaten at this point and Taylor broke again to take the match 11-8. Taylor has only lost once in Australia in a happy hunting ground. He will try and double up next week and make it an Australian Double as the tour heads out west to Perth.

Players Championship Final Round 17 – K Anderson v Painter

australia

Kyle Anderson claimed a maiden title in the 17th Round of the Players Championship in Barnsley. He faced Kevin Painter in the final who was in his first main circuit tournament final for four years. Anderson began with a bang taking out 148 to break in the first leg and then went on to claim another break to take a 3-0 lead.

Anderson then held again and went one away from a whitewash missing the third dart in an attempt to take out another 148 but was able to return and hit double 14 with his next dart. Painter avoided a whitewash by finishing off an impressive 128 to put himself finally on the board. He held to make it 5-2 and prolong the contest but that was as far it it went as Anderson won the eighth leg to wrap up the 6-2 victory over The Artist.

It ended the perfect day for the Australian who earlier in the day hit a perfect nine dart finish in he last 16 in his win against Ronny Huybrechts.

Player Championship Final Round 18 – Chisnall v North

england

It was third time lucky in 2017 for Dave Chisnall who claimed his first tour title of 2017 in Round 18 of the Players Championship. Having lost two finals this year experience was the key as he faced Swindon’s Richard North. North had never been in a final before but showed few nerves as he moved into a 3-1 lead early on.

Chisnall broke back with a 107 checkout to make it 3-3 and then held twice more to move within one of the title at 5-4. North was not done however and took the match all the way with a brilliant 144 finish under pressure. North had a finish to win it but could not take out 155, allowing Chisnall in to hit double 10 for the victory.

The tour moves down under next for tournaments in Australia and New Zealand.

PDC World Matchplay Final in Blackpool – Taylor v Wright

england

Phil Taylor rolled back the years to take a 16th World Matchplay title. He thrashed world number 1 Michael van Gerwin earlier in the week and after easing past Adrian Lewis in the Semi Final he faced Peter Wright, who had come through a close semi of his own against Daryl Gurney to get here. Taylor had the better of the opening exchanges taking a 4-2 lead.

Wright finished a 100 with two double tops to close to one but then Taylor went on a tare of four straight legs to take a huge 8-3 lead. Wright would not buckle through taking three on the spin to close to to 8-6 but that would be as close as he got. Taylor took the next four to move to 12-6 and Wright would win only two more legs as Taylor with a 104 average completed his vintage performance tow in 18-8 and claim another major in what he says will be his final year of touring.

Could ‘The Power’ finish with another World Title? on this form, he just might.
