Premier League – Liverpool v Crystal Palace

LIVERPOOL 1 CRYSTAL PALACE 0
Liverpool have their first win of the season with an unconvincing 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield. Christian Benteke, returning to his old club, missed a huge chance for Palace in the first half blazing over from 8 yards out.
Liverpool pushed forward but had trouble breaking a largely defensive Palace down. The goal came on 73 minutes after poor defending allowing Sadio Mane to prod the ball home.
Mohamad Salah and Jordan Henderson had efforts wells aved late on. Palace look a poor side that are heading for a relegation battle. For Liverpool, they will take four points from six after not playing that well so far.

Premier League – Leicester City v Brighton & Hove Albion

FOXES 2 BRIGHTON 0
Leicester got their first win of the Premier League season beating Brighton 2-0 at the King Power Stadium. Shinji Okazaki has the Foxes ahead within a minute from a rebound after Riyad Mahrez effort was spilled by the keeper.
Brighton offered little going forward and Leicester deserved their second through Harry Maguire’s header from a Mahrez cross. It was Maguires first goal for the club and it capped a superb afternoon for Maguire who was instrumental in midfield throughout.
After their unfortunate defeat at Arsenal, the Foxes are off and running for the season ahead.
Report (BBC Sport)
Championship – Nottingham Forest v Middlesbrough

FOREST 2 MIDDLESBROUGH 1
After defeat they did not deserve Nottingham Forest got back to winning ways at the City Ground. Kiran Dowell’s smart through ball set Barrie McKay away to slot Forest into the lead on 16 minutes.
Britt Assombalonga who left Forest for Middlesbrough in the summer missed two good chances for the visitors and they were punished as Ben Gibson brought down Ben Brereton, allowing Daryl Murphy to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot.
Gibson got one back for Boro late on but it was not enough. Forest get another deserved win and have 9 points out of 12 continuing their fine start to the season and are currently in fourth place in the table.
Report (BBC Sport)
Championship – Bolton Wanderers v Derby County

BOLTON 1 RAMS 2
Derby County made it two wins in a row with a 2-1 win at Bolton. Derby dominated the first half with Matej Vydra wasting two good chances and defender Andrew Wisdom going close.
Two goals from Kevin Nugent had Derby in a derserved lead at the break, the first a flick after good work from Vydra, the second a header from Johnny Russell’s cross. The second half was quieter with Gary Madine getting a consolation for the hosts in injury time.
The win means Derby move up to seventh in the table after a difficult start, they are now looking in much better shape.
Report (BBC Sport)
League 1 – Doncaster Rovers v Blackpool

DONCASTER 3 TANGERINES 3
Blackpool earned an excellent point at Doncaster in a ding dong battle. Doncaster struck first as Ryan Allsop put through his own net, Blackpool were level within a minute however as Sean Longstaff struck from range.
Doncaster had the lead at the break after John Marquis was set up by Andy Butler and scored with a cool finish. Blackpool had their long range shooting boots on as Oliver Turton leveled again with another strike from range early in the second half.
Alfie May put Doncaster back ahead but yet again Blackpool were level within a minute through Callum Cooke. May could have won it for Doncaster in stoppage time, but a point each was about a right result.
This is an impressive point away from home for Blackpool which suggests they are getting used to the higher level of football after promotion last season.
Report (BBC Sport)
League 2 – Accrington Stanley v Mansfield Town

ACCRINGTON 2 STAGS 1
Mansfield Town were struck a blow as a last gasp winner for Accrington saw the Stags fall to a 2-1 defeat. Kayden Jackson was a clever turn and shot gave the Lancashire men the lead on 10 minutes.
Mansfield deserved their equaliser as Danny Rose clipped the ball over the keeper allow Lee Angel the easiest of tap ins into an empty net. Mansfield had more possession and will feel they had done enough to get at least a point but it was not to be.
The Stags failed to clear a corner in injury time allowing Billy Kee to stab home the winner. It’s Mansfield’s first league defeat of the season and they will need to react so as not to fall too far behind the early leaders.
Report (BBC Sport)
League 2 – Coventry City v Newport County

COVENTRY 0 EXILES 1
Newport County gained a superb three points at one of the title favourites Coventry as the Exiles ran out 1-0 winners in their first trip to the Ricoh Arena. A long range speculative effort from Reece Cole was spilled by keeper Liam O’Brien giving Newport a surprise lead.
Tony Andreu and Jodi Jones missed chances for the hosts who have conceded their first goal of the season. On balance though the game was fairly even and Newport were deserving of the win.
The Exiles are in 9th place on five points and may prove to be the surprise package of the season.
Report (BBC Sport)
League 2 – Wycombe Wanderers v Notts County

WYCOMBE 2 MAGPIES 4
Notts County held off a second half come back from Wycombe to claim their first away win of the season. Richard Duffy headed the opener from a Daniel Jones cross and a moment later Adam El-Adb put through his own net as the Magpies took a deserved 2-0 half time lead.
Wycombe though hit back in the second half through Nick Freeman and Joe Jacobson to bring the hosts level, were Notts away day problems going to strike again? Not this time. Notts showed real character as Jonathan Forte headed the magpies back ahead with his second goal in a week after scoring in the midweek EFL Cup game.
Lewis Alessandra grabbed his first goal for the club to make it 4-2 and seal the points. After the opening day hammering at Coventry, Notts have looked an increasingly good side since. Certainly a good deal better than last season.
Report (BBC Sport)
National League – Chester v Sutton United

SEALS 2 SUTTON UNITED 3
Chester faced a tough test against second place Sutton United today and so it proved. Before today Chester had drawn all three of their games and it looked like it would be four in a row. Louis John’s rocket strike opened the scoring for Sutton.
Kenny Davis sent Tommy Wright clear to make it 2-0 but Chester gave themselves hope just before the break through Craig Mahon. Chester were level through Lucas Dawson which led to an exciting end to end finish.
In the end it was Sutton however who prevailed as Kieron Cadogan calmly chipped the keeper to win the game for Sutton. With no wins on the board, Chester need to be careful or they could easily fall into a relegation battle.
Report (BBC Sport)
National League – Eastleigh v Tranmere Rovers

EASTLEIGH 2 ROVERS 0
Tranmere Rovers will rue missed chances as they went down to a surprise 2-0 defeat at Eastleigh. Connor Jennings should have had Tranmere ahead in a tight first half heading against the post in the best chance of the opening period.
James Norwood also should have put the Merseyside outfit ahead, within a minute of his missed chance Eastleigh had broken and Ben Williamson finished a smart passing move. Substitute Craig McAllister sealed the win with a header from a Sam Matthews cross.
Eastleigh dominated the latter stages and could have had more. A poor day for Tranmere who who need to end their current poor run quickly if they want to get into the promotion battle.
Report (BBC Sport)
National League North – Alfreton Town v Southport

ALFRETON 0 SANDGROUNDERS 1
Southport made it four wins out of five with a hard fought victory at Alfreton Town. It was a scrappy first half with Craig Westcarr’s free kick for Alfreton coming the closest to opening the scoring. S
outhport took control in the second half with Ethan Jones being denied on two occasions. The goal came on 69 minutes when Bradley Johnson’s pass teed up Steven Schumacher to fire home from 20 yards.
From then on Alfreton offered little and Southport saw it out for three big away points. The Sandgrounders move up to third with the win. A big week is coming up, first York and then Salford on Bank Holiday Monday, two of the title favourites back to back.
Scottish Championship – Queen Of The South v Dumbarton

DOONHAMMERS 1 DUMBARTON 0
Queen Of The South defeated Dumbarton 1-0 at Palmerstone park and could have had more in a dominant win. Dumbarton Keeper Scott Gallacher had an excellent first half keeping out Scott Dobbie and Shaun Rooney in the first half.
The goal came just before the break through a Callum Fordyce header, scoring for the second game in a row. Calum Gallacher went close for the visitors with the best chance of the second half, but Dobbie also missed another good chance and Queens totally deserved their win.
The win means the Doonhammers move up to fourth in the table with 6 points from 9.
