1st Test at Edgbaston – England v West Indies

england

The first ever day-night test in England proved a straight forward affair for the hosts as West Indies totally collapsed as the games was a one sided affair. England put a big total of 514 on the board with Alaistair Cook scoring a brilliant 243 and captain Joe Root piling on the misery with a 136 of his own. Royston Chase took four wickets for the visitors whose problems were only just starting.

England bowled them all out for 168 with Jermaine Blackwood’s 79 Not out the only resistance. England enforced the follow on and the West Indies second innings was even worse as Stuart Broad took three wickets and nobody scored more than 40. The visitors collapsed to 137 all out as England took 19 wickets in a single day. With two more tests a whitewash already looks on the cards in what appears on this evidence a total mismatch.

Test Game 1 – England v Pakistan

10 wickets across both innings from Yasir Shah led Pakistan to victory in the first test against England at Lords. Misbah Ul-Haq’s 114 in the first innings enabled Pakistan to to post 339. Despite Alistair Cook’s 81, Shah’s 6 wicket hall restricted England’s reply to 272.

England were left chasing the game being set 282 to win but and fell 75 runs short of the eventual target with Shah taking another four wickets including the key middle order of Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow who had threatened with decent knocks to put England in with a shout. These wickets were to keep the pressure on England and and help seal the win and a 1-0 lead for Pakistan.

ODI Game 4 – Ireland v Afghanistan

Rashid Khan produced an outstanding performance with the bat and ball as Afghanistan took a 2-1 lead in their one day series with Ireland.Khan hit 60 Not Out with Mohammad Nabi making 50 as Afghanistan put 229 on the board. Khan then was to take four wickets as the hosts were skittled out for 150 as only Kevin O’Brien with 34 put up any real resistance. It means Afghanistan cannot lose the series with ony one game left.
