2nd Test Match – South Africa v New Zealand
After the first test was all but washed out South Africa secured victory in their two test series over New Zealand at Centurion Park. The foundations were laid in a relentless batting masterclass in the first innings in which South Africa took advantage of the best of the conditions to post 481. There was a century for Faf du Plessis (112 not out) supported by John-Paul Duminy (88) and Quinton du Kock (82). There were also half centuries for Hashim Amla and Stephen Cook. In response New Zealand collapsed. One Kane Williamson with 77 put up any real resistance as they were all out for 214.
South Africa did not enforce the follow on and Du Kock got another 50 before the declaration came leaving New Zealand with a target of 400. Instead Dale Steyn produced some excellent bowling taking 5 Wickets. Henry Nichols put up a fight with 76 for the visitors but in the end South Africa eased to a big 204 run win set up by that first innings. With the game comes a series victory against a good opposition.
